The Green Circle Trail, a 30 mile natural hiking and bicycling trail that loops through Stevens Point and Plover Wisconsin is a major recreational resource to the community.
Located on a small plot of prairie adjacent to a busy intersection, this pavilion acts as a trailhead marker and houses maps and visitor information. The foundation piers are built of site-cast concrete and support the four main structural elements, composed of timber telephone poles. The dramatic planar roofs are sheeted in wood decking and shingled with cedar shakes. The orientation of the largest roof planes protects trail patrons from inclement weather out of the north while the smaller roof planes provide shade and rain protection. The building methods reflect a contemporary interpretation of vernacular and native building techniques to create a striking statement and increase visibility of the trail. |
